postheadericon Make It Easy for Viewers to Signup for Your Mailings

My brother and I are huge sports fans and I recently received an e-newsletter covering our local teams. I forwarded the mailing on to him, knowing that he’d be interested.

Upon receiving it, he immediately wanted to signup for the newsletter himself. There was just one problem, there was no signup link within the newsletter.

The solution was simple enough, go to the website directly and signup for the newsletter there. Had the link been on the main page, it would be simple, but the link was buried one level down, hidden in another page.

Yes, my brother was able to signup and yes, it was a relatively easy process, but it could have been simpler.

Make your signup process quick. All you need to start mailing is an email address. Some companies make the process a chore and try to extract every last bit of data from the viewer. Don’t lose sight of the goal here. You want someone to signup so that you can begin mailing them. Having that extra data would be nice, but don’t do it at the expense of losing out on a possible signup.

Make your signup link visible. Does everyone know that you have a newsletter? If not, having a highly visible signup link would immediately inform viewers of this service.

But why stop there? Place the link within your newsletter so that people who are forwarded the email can signup as well. Place the link in your Facebook account or your Twitter account. If you’re a retailer, give customers the option of signing up during the checkout process. If a customer has already purchased something, place a link in the order confirmation email that you send to them.

If you don’t currently have a signup process in place and would like to start, we have an “Opt-In Form” generator that will help get you started. It’s a quick automated process that doesn’t require any coding skills. You can read more about it here.

By having a viewer signup for your mailing/newsletter, you are opening up an entire avenue of communication with that potential customer. It would be in your best interest, to make the signup process as easy as possible.
