Test Your Email Subject Matter!
Do you send email out on a regular basis to your customers? Then you should be testing what performs best when sending email. Should you personalize your subject line? Should you use plain text or HTML? Should you include prices or omit them completely? All of this can be answered by testing your email subject matter.
It’s not a new concept, but it’s definitely worth mentioning again and again. It’s the best way to find out how your customers respond to what you are sending to them.
Don’t underestimate the importance of the subject line. It’s usually the key to make it into the Inbox vs. the Junk folder. Try a few variations of your subject line to equal portions of your list to see which one outperforms. Use personalization in one subject, test out different key words, include price vs. none, etc… See here for more: Email Marketing Subject Line Testing…Do You Test? Try to remember to follow certain rules for subject lines to avoid ending up in Junk…see here for more.
Boomerang offers A/B testing on many different aspects of the email…check out more on our wiki page.
I’d also suggest sending different types of emails for the same message. Try sending one formatted in HTML with your logo and promo images. Also try sending the same message in plain text. We all assume that everyone wants HTML, but your audience might surprise you. Test it out to see what emails work best for your customer base.
Boomerang offers a CAMPAIGNS feature in our online tool, BlastWizard™, that allows you to create multiple jobs and view side-by-side reporting to see which one outperforms the others. This can be done during the email scheduling process or after.
